The Authentic Assistant

What is trust? Who should I be trusting?

What exactly does the word trust mean? It seems to be thrown around and not valued or acknowledged. How many of us really understand it and what it really means.

AS A NOUN

A firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.

“relations have to be built on trust”

AS A VERB

believe in the reliability, truth, or ability of.

“I should never have trusted him”

Trust means that you are relying and expecting someone else to do the right thing. You believe in that person or people to have integrity and honour.

How much trust do we use on a daily basis?

Most of us don’t even realise how much trust we use all the time. As a human being living in this world we live everyday by trusting people and even things in almost every situation.

You trust that

  • the alarm clock will work so that you will get up in time.
  • the bus/train/taxi driver will driver you safely from A to B.
  • the hairdresser that will cut your hair.
  • the car you drive is safe and roadworthy.
  • the doctor to look after your health.
  • the teachers and school to look after your children.
  • the plumber or electrician to legally and safely repair or install appliances or items.
  • the chef that prepares your food safely in a cafe or restaurant.

The list could go on all day and everyday and no one blinks an eye.

While most of these are services you have to pay for and that trust has a monetary side to it, it still doesn’t guarantee that it is the best for you. Of course they are trusting you that you will pay for the service.

You pay the mechanic to fix your car. Will they only fix and replace what is required? Are you paying too much or was it necessary to replace it? Did the person do a responsible job for the money you paid for it? You have to trust them.

The people we should be able to trust

Your family should be the very people who are there for you and yet this is not always the case.

You choose the friends you have and trust them with so many aspects or your life. For this reason you hope they are honestly there for you as much as you are for them. You confide your inner self and secrets to friends and family. One doesn’t even think about it.

Other people have to trust you. You need to be respectful of them and the trust they have in you. If you recommend a plumber to a friend you have confidence in that tradesman to be qualified and honest with your contact as well.

Animals trust humans and of course we have to trust them. How else would you be able to form such unbelievable close bonds with your pets. Enjoying that almost symbiotic relationship with your pet or pets is amazing, you almost feel sad for people who don’t open their hearts to that connection.

How many of us have been let down by family or friends? Or the people in our lives that we thought we could believe in.

Having that blind faith in someone is wonderful and empowering. When that is mutual that is something to be cherished. The feeling of being able to let yourself go and just be you, be comfortable just being you, that is something that money can never buy.

Can you think right now of someone who you trust? How does that make you feel when you think about that person? You are probably smiling right now.

If you are lucky enough to have close friends with whom you share that mutual respect and bond and you know you are in a safe zone with them. That is golden. If only everyone had that.

We trust people every day

If you take a few minutes right now and think about how many times today you have put your trust in people and even things, can you count them? Finding your own network of trustworthy people should be considered a goal in itself. Not everyone achieves this and it makes you appreciate those honourable people you have in your circle.

Do you have people in your life who trust you? who could say that in describing you, that you are honourable, loyal and trustworthy.

The one person you should be trusting is yourself. Want to read more about this then check out this post here.

Sometimes words or phrases can have that right impact when you need it. One quote or saying just hits the spot and gives you the energy you need right now.
