Every experience, both good and bad, teaches you something in life. It is up to you whether you are willing to learn from it and progress or just stay still.
Maybe it gives you a chance to learn and open yourself up to new opportunities and adventures.
Life is a journey we all go on and we can either just drift through it and let the current take us along or we can choose to swim against the current and challenge ourselves to live the life we choose to.
If you choose to set one of your goals and habits to never stop learning, keep your curiosity levels up you may start to see things in a whole new light.
Gaining knowledge seems easier and you feel wiser and calmer.
“The important thing is not to stop questioning; curiosity has its own reason for existing. “ – Albert Einstein
Your memories of school holding you back
Whatever your experience in school, whether positive or negative it is in the past and cannot be changed.
Some people would say that when they were in school they felt like they had to learn to stay out of trouble or to please the teachers. Some even had pressure from their parents to excel and believed they were doing all this for others, never for themselves.
What did they learn? And what do they remember from all that study?
“Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.” – E.M. Forster
Do you ever think back to school and realise that the subject or subjects you enjoyed the most were the ones you had an interest in. Maybe not the subject and how it is taught or what you had to learn but the area itself. Unfortunately that may have been a subject not offered in your school or you could not take it the following year as it was not helping you in your blindfolded funnel towards further education.
Well the beauty is when you learn for yourself it makes it easier to retain that information. If you find something that interests you then that spark of curiosity is all you need to keep your motivation up.
“Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will.“ – Vernon Howard
Commit yourself to conquering one new thing a month
Keep a list of the books you want to read, podcasts you want to listen to and hobbies you want to try. Things you want to learn or master.
You are not comparing yourself to anyone else and what they can and can’t do.
“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” – Anthony J. D’Angelo
Start reading and keep reading, even if you only manage a page a day. There are books and articles for you. Update your knowledge and skills along the way.
If you don’t know where your local library is or have not been there for a long time, plan some time for yourself and head in and give yourself the chance to walk down the aisles and look at some of the books there. Find out what is available in the library. Are there audiobooks you can take out on loan? Or even courses you can do.
Audio books or podcasts are a wonderful way of learning new things while on the commute to work and home, or cooking a meal, going out for a walk or even cleaning the house.
It may surprise you how quickly you fall back in love with learning and not even realise you are doing it. It becomes a habit and second nature to you.
Challenge yourself to try something new
Learning is an ongoing exercise of the mind and soul and also the body. You may just surprise yourself and find you are developing and mastering new skills along the way.
This helps you adapt to new situations in life.
It can build up your self confidence and inspires you to continuously challenge yourself.
You become aware of your surroundings, your family, friends and community. Being able to understand what is going on at the moment can help you and your family in so many ways.
Building the habit of learning can improve your overall health as you find out more about yourself and what is impacting your life.
Who knows where our journey can take you. By continuously learning you are in charge or where you are going.
“Keep learning new things every day to feel young at any age, otherwise you feel tired and old by your everyday routine.”
