Have you been thinking about what it would be like to start something new?
Feel like you have been in a rut and life is just plodding along and you have no direction? Looking for some inspiration and new motivation, if you only could do something about it.
Watching what other people have done and all that they have achieved makes them seem like superior beings. Where did their energy come from and how did they do it? They make it all look so easy and simple. Well you can do it too. You just need to find out what is holding you back.
Fear of something new
It is so easy to fall into the safe feeling of doing things as you have always done and accepting things as they are. New things can be scary and there is a fear of the unknown.
You start to think about all the things that can go wrong and that mindset takes over.
It seems like you spend more time contemplating the negative and stop to even imagine what something new could bring to your life. The positive impact it could bring.

Write down your fears
Yes, if you are the kind of person who likes writing down things, make a list of the things that scare you about trying something new.
Take a break and then come back and read over your list.
Have you been honest about the reasons and how negative is the language you have used?
What would happen if you rewrote the list replacing the negative things with positive outcomes?
Accept the change and uncertainty that comes with new beginnings
It is time to look at it as a fresh start. Allow yourself to dream about it. We cannot control everything that happens in our life but we can learn to accept it. This is how things are right now but what if I could do “X”?
A new job offer means moving to a new city or even country? Is it a bad thing? Maybe not.
Try new things
Understand where you have been, where you are right now and what you have experienced. Acknowledge what you feel you have missed out on or regret not having done.
Can you do something about that right now?
Have you always wanted to learn a new language and travel to that country to immerse yourself in the culture? Maybe there is a course for you to join to learn the language.
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” – John F. Kennedy
Once you have decided on your new start or challenge you are winning. That decision you make to try or begin is the start of the positive change in your life.
Start with something simple
Think about something small that you can start with to boost your self confidence.
“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” – Plato
The first step is always the hardest but can feel so empowering in itself.
Have you always wanted to check out that little store you have passed by on your commute everyday? Or a cafe that you have constantly looked at?
Why not take the time to meander around that shop or enjoy a treat in the cafe. Take yourself out and try something new just for yourself. Use the time to savour the new experience just for yourself.
It doesn’t have to be a major one to start you off. Have you always wanted to get up earlier and lack the motivation, then why not try setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier and see what those extra 10 minutes in the morning do to your morale. Maybe it inspires you to try 20 minutes earlier the following week.
The same could apply to getting to bed earlier.
The improvements in your life could be felt very quickly. That boost to your confidence could be the push you need to do something bigger.
By pushing yourself you learn more about yourself and what you can achieve.
Don't worry if things are not successful on day one
The beginning is always the hardest part and while some things work out immediately. That is not always the case and where is the challenge in that?
Have you always thought of setting up your own business or starting a side hustle then why not start? Do some research in the field. Is there something online that can give you some insight into the area? Just do one thing at a time.
Trying to live a healthier lifestyle needs time and consistency. Taking that first step is the beginning of your journey. It takes more than one day or even a month.
Don't get hung up on being perfect
Perfection is not the key, progress is. Just keep going and let the excitement and enthusiasm push you on. As you spend time on the new project the buzz inspires you. The curiosity takes over and the momentum builds up. No one is perfect and no one is good at everything. Learning new things takes time and patience.
Don't worry about the big picture
Focus on the here and now and celebrate each milestone you achieve. If you have written down your goal and you feel the motivation whenever you think about it then that is the main thing. If you have broken down the steps you need to take to achieve that goal then being able to tick off the steps each time something is completed is a win.
Live in the here and now and enjoy the journey so far. Acknowledge all that you have learned and experienced so far and look forward to learning more.
Don't be afraid to fail
Failure only means you are learning and what you do with it depends on your resolve. Do you get back up and keep going or give up?
Why not find out why you failed and adapt or change to make it work.
There are so many successful people who have achieved their dream, their goal and it definitely was not easy for them. Reading about their journeys is inspiring. Some of them experienced so many failures and setbacks. The difference is they were not afraid to fail.
They picked themselves up and believed in themselves and carried on.
Be willing to change
New beginnings can be so empowering and may be the start of an exciting new chapter in your life. Learning more about yourself and how strong and resilient you are is priceless.
It’s time to be your own cheerleader and encourage yourself to reach your goals. Be that little bit selfish and remember your own dreams while still fulfilling the responsibilities you have.
It is time to believe in yourself and trust your gut instincts and find the inner strength to invest in yourself.
Remember when one door closes another one opens. It can be hard to do something new and different. It means you have to take a risk and that can be frightening, however nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Maybe it is time to get rid of old things and old habits and time to start something new.
